In the early 1980’s the Kidd’s Beach holiday programme started. Very soon it became a very important part of the summer holidays. Uncle Bill, as he was so fondly known by all the kids, ran the activities. From beach activities in the morning, to village green cricket in the afternoon, the kiddies’ discos in the evening and of course the Bingo evenings at the bowls club. He also arranged activities against the other holiday venues, swimming galas, volley ball and cricket matches. Uncle Bill would always be seen with his loud hailer and bag of sweets, chips and prizes. He loved doing what he did and he had a knack of making every child feel important. This set the scene for the holiday programme activities which take place every year over the December holiday period. The activities are run by members of the local community and provide fun and social events for young and old.
